Tamara Bittner, PhD.
Bio
I was born and raised in a small town called Günzburg in the south-west of Bavaria, Germany. Although Günzburg itself has not much to offer, I grew up just 2 miles from the famous LEGOLAND theme park.

Fascinated by chemistry even before my first chemistry lesson in school, I always knew that chemistry and science will be my future!
Education
After my high school gradutation, I moved to Northern Bavaria, where I received my bachelor´s degree in chemistry from the University of Bayreuth and also continued my master´s program for organic chemistry. To broaden my horizon, I moved to the UK for a 3-months internship with Prof. Malcolm Halcrow at the University of Leeds. Back in Germany, my eagerness for knowledge led me to one of my best decisions in life so far: I moved to Freiburg (Germany) to work on my master´s thesis in the group of Prof. Jochen Seufert at the University Hospital of Freiburg. This was the first time I came in touch with the amazing world of biology and where I learned all the basics about molecular biology and diabetes research.
After that, I started my PhD in the group of Prof. Henning Jessen at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg in the field of bioorganic chemistry. A collaboration with the group of Carsten Schultz gave me the opportunity to spend 4 months of my PhD at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg (Germany).
Present-day
At the moment, I´m a Postdoctoral scholar in the group of Prof. Carsten Schultz at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon (USA).
If I´m not in the lab, you will find me traveling around this beautiful country!
